It is Mr. Arada who led the Woody JOE’s wooden models’ imitations and manufacturing.
He used to participate in designing and fabricating the hot commodity “IRON NO. 28” and “THUNDER BIRD” while he was employed by the IMAI TIME(IMAI SCIENCE at present).
Needless to say, he is the “legend” of plastic model industry.
“I started the wooden model fabricating at around 1975. It’s been 40 years since I started this job.
During the bankruptcy of the IMAI, (Woody JOE takes over its wooden models’ business in 2002), I received plenty offers from other manufacturer. But I eventually accepted the invitation provided by the Woody JOE and continue my wooden models career.
Many people at his age have retired five years ago, but Mr. Arada is still on the way to the first line of product development and personally participated in product design.
For wooden models’ fabricating, every things start with collecting detailed information.
“We are now trying to imitate the “1/75 Huijin rongluo Hall”. The building is a private property. We learned that a university had made a detailed investigation of the building, so we went to ask for relevant materials.
“If we can get the design drawing of the building, we will design according to the drawing. But since we make models, how to modify the models and let customers enjoy the happiness by this process is also a key point. This will test the ability of a person in charge of fabrication. ”
The drawings made according to the original data will be sent to the laser cutting machine for trial production immediately.
“Sometimes, we finished the design of the drawing in the morning and started the pre-production in the afternoon. Compared with the plastic models which need molds, the short development cycle is one of the advantages of wooden models. ”
When a design that appears in your mind is transformed into a three-dimensional model in front of you, the points that should be corrected will appear naturally.
“When we made RONGLUO hall, we found that it looked very rough, but in fact, the carving parts were extremely exquisite. Because the selling point of this building is here, how to reflect it on the model is a problem. Sometimes it’s hard to show the original boldness if we make small ones directly, which requires us to make errors in the process of pre-production. ”
Although it’s a scale model, if you let 10 people fabricate and design, there will be ten different products. The model can reflect the personality of developers, which is one of the funs of making model.
Mr. Arada, which has accumulated a lot of design experience in the production of plastic models, makes the wooden models easy to assemble.
“Because there is a laser cutting machine now, the design of the wooden model is unexpectedly similar to that of the plastic model. Just because I started my model design career from plastic model, I attach great importance to the production of products that can be assembled in one voice.
All my life I’ve been on the line of making models.
The challenge of Mr. Arada, the legendary model maker, continues.
