From 70s, Subaru joined the rally field, it has won the manufacturers’ championship three times in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Meanwhile, it has raised a bunch of rally stars, Toshihiro Arai is one of them.
Arai was born in Isesaki, Gunma. He made his debut in 1987 and drove for the Subaru World Rally Team in the Group N World Rally Championship from 1997–2000 and 2002–2003, and in the Group A Championship in 2000–2001.
In 2004 he established his own team, Subaru Team Arai, and won the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship for Drivers in 2005 and 2007 driving a Subaru Impreza WRX STI. He scored class victories in Turkey, Japan and Australia on his way to the title.
This car was Arai’s ride during his battle of European Rally Championship, some fans called it “Blue Pig”. Different from the famous “555”, this livery decreased some competitive elements and showed to people the lovely side of this Subaru rally car. It was actually because of the sponsorship back then.
The loge “Spike” might not ring your bell, but when I mentioned the Dragon Ball game, you must remember. It’s the issuer of Dragon Ball Z from 2005. Besides it issued a lot of good games on PSP and PSV.
You couldn’t miss this black little pig. Speak of this, it was actually a personal sponsor, rather than sponsoring the entire Subaru World Rally team to STI. The pig is a mascot for the Japanese manga (comic) magazine Young Magazine. It’s always somewhere on the cover… The pig appears on Petter Solberg’s rally car. The pig has only been on the driver’s side mirror. Back in 2002 it showed up on the co-driver’s side as well, but that seems to have been dropped later. Toshihiro Arai (in the Production championship) has the pig on both of his side mirrors, as well as a little piggie on his driving suit.
Before, TAMIYA released this Arai version 1/24 Subaru Impreza WRC, but it was out of stock for years. It’s a shame that hobby makers couldn’t build this one. FuelMe make this version alive for you guys and hope you’re satisfied with it.
This kit part could assemble perfectly with TAMIYA’s 1/24 Subaru Impreza WRC (No.24218). This kit includes a set of resin wheels, green TAKATA safety belt, metal net, Arai livery water sticker and one metal plate.
